Marner is no different than any other RFA. Leafs will not even think of moving him.
Leafs have the $, just a matter of finding a # that works.

They actually don't have the $$$ in cap space.... 3 players taking up more than 40% of the cap?

The numbers are there.... his rep just wants to capitalize on the timing of the contracts to have it expire as the same time as AM and WN.

you should definitely just stick with blogs where you cut and paste a headline or someone else's tweet.

I didn't think they could sign him until they shed cap money? They can only exceed the cap by 10 percent and they are already over that. I didn't think ltir money could be removed until the season starts?

Just because there are 3 offers, doesn't mean Marner is obligated to sign any of them.

6 years at 10 million, 8 years at 11 million...while looking nice are BOTH wayyyyyy outside the 11.5 over 5 years he wants close to.

6 years might be fine...if Leafs upped it to 11.5 or 12 million.
8 years might work too....if 14 million was the amount

But, none of the 3 offers you mentioned was close to the Matthews deal....and THAT is the ballpark Marner wants. Buckle up. This is going well into training camp, and likely the start of the season.

Leaf fans predictably hope Marner signs but it is quite possible that a trade could benefit the team. A deal that brings back a proven player and at least one first rounder and other picks just might entice Dubas. Might help avoid these disputes as well

Interesting how the only big-name RFA you hear about is Marner...

There are no "leaks" from any other teams/agents?

... or is all of this more BS and media having nothing better to do in the summer that put out anonymous "leaked" information.

I somehow doubt that anyone has the actual real story about what has been discussed except the principals.

One thing is certain.

Toronto is definitely not the center of the hockey universe.

>>"The release of these leaks shows the Leafs are frustrated with a lack of communication and good faith"

guess we know who's "side" you're oh (eh?)

What if His camp said "we're tired of this, here's what we'll accept, now stop bugging us"? then how would you describe the leak? I doubt it would change anything.

I'm ALWAYS going to side with the 'worker', get your money Mitch.

Has anyone stopped to think that Babcock is the problem and not the money?

The number of issues that have leaked in the last year and half about Babcock and relationships with his players...I would not be surprised if Marner is looking for some kind of guarantee about Babcock.

Just a thought

OR...

It is summer. Nothing is happening. We are bored. The media has nothing legit to report. So let's put some Leafs crap out there because it generates hits.

Marner is not AM, and does not deserve that kind of money! He’s not Patrick Kane who scores 40+ goals..........he’s a good hockey player who plays with great centres. Trade him. Resolve our cap issues and get a fab return, prospects/picks......trade him! There’s not a team in the league that will pay him what he can make playing in TO, with salary and endorsements. The greed astounds me.

Hilarious how noobs without hardware want big money like veterans with cup rings.

Tell him to go stock groceries for a while and then come back with a better attitude.

No I assume Leaf management would be smart enuf to sign him to 5 x 9.5 if that was doable. You may live in the dark, but if this deal is not done to this point there is no doubt he wants CLOSE to Matthews $$$ and term. And when it is signed and he signs for 10.5 or 11 x 5.....or 11 or 11.5 x 6.....make sure you come back to let me know my "sourses" were spot on.

Geez....what foolishness some of you go on with. The WORLD knows Marner wants in the neighborhood of Matthews, right or wrong...and when done he may sign for a shade less, but that's all. You can doubt it all you want but it is what it is.

What do you think then smart-ass??? Marner is good with 5 x 9...but Leafs won't do it???
